Defrag (short for Disk Defragmenter) organizes your filesystem to
help Windows read files faster.
Defragmenting your disk can take some time (several hours even on a fast
PC), so it is recommended to not use your computer while it is
defragmenting or that you leave your PC defragmenting over night.
- Close down all applications and disable your virus scanner if
possible. Also switch turn off any screensavers that you have.
- Click Start and then Programs->Accessories->System
Tools->Disk Defragmenter

- Disk Defragmentor will start. In the top half of the window you
will see a list of your harddisks, you may only have one. If you
have several you will need to defragment each drive. Click on the
drive that you wish to defragment and click Defragment. While
your disk is being defragmented, you can use your computer for other
tasks. However, your computer operates more slowly, and Disk
Defragmenter takes longer to finish.
so it is recommended to not use
your computer while it is defragmenting or that you leave your PC
defragmenting over night.

- After some hours defragmentation will be complete. The graphical
representation of your harddisk should look more healthy with little
or no red blocks. You may now quit Disk Defragmentor or defragment
another disk.
